Harlaxton Manor announces Christmas Open House

Harlaxton Manor, a stunning landmark on the borders of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Nottinghamshire, will soon welcome visitors for a special Christmas Open House, offering an enchanting journey through festive history.

This Grade I listed estate near Grantham, with its 300 acres of gardens and parkland, invites guests to explore its beautifully adorned interior, uniquely decorated to celebrate different eras.

From the Victorian era to the turn of the millennium, Harlaxton Manor’s ‘Christmas Through the Ages’ event will bring history to life with festive flair. One highlight will be a 1940s-themed room, featuring a private collection honoring Winston Churchill, including a lifelike wax figure and rare memorabilia, including an artwork by Churchill himself.

Bethan Price, Events Manager at Harlaxton Manor, shared her excitement: “This year, we’re offering a Christmas experience unlike any other – a nostalgic journey through history within the stunning surroundings of Harlaxton Manor. After the success of our recent 1940s weekend, we knew we had to go bigger and better. Our Christmas Open House will be a festive spectacle, with decorations inspired by different decades, from the Victorian age to the 2000s, and even a glimpse into the future of Christmas with eco-friendly creations.”

Dr. Holly Carter, Director and Dean of Harlaxton College, added: “We are proud to present this remarkable collection of Churchill memorabilia, especially as we approach the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2024. History enthusiasts will find much to enjoy in our 1940s exhibit, as Harlaxton Manor itself has deep ties to the wartime effort.”

Harlaxton Manor, originally constructed in 1831 by Gregory Gregory, features a mix of Gothic, Jacobethan, and Baroque architectural styles, making it a truly unique venue. The manor also played a significant role during World War II, serving as a base for the Royal Air Force’s 1st Airborne Division.

Visitors can enjoy the Christmas Open House on November 30, December 1, and December 7-8, from 10 am to 5 pm (last entry at 4 pm). Tickets are available from £18 for adults, £15 for concessions, and £11 for children, with family passes starting at £55. Limited tickets will also be available on-site.
