Latest dates announced for Corporation Road Bridge works

The latest footpath closure and weekend working dates for repairs to Corporation Road Bridge have been announced.

The Grade II-listed Grimsby bridge has been closed to motorists since February 2023. It was originally planned to reopen before Christmas last year, but it was found to be in a worse state than expected.

There is no official reopening date yet, but in August the council estimated it would likely reopen in summer 2025. To take advantage of low tide levels, further weekend working is planned.

Footpath closures are also scheduled on eight days across November to ensure public and contractor safety, as works will take place next to public areas. November’s footpath closures and weekend working dates are as follows:

South Footpath Closures, 9am–4pm

  • Tuesday 5 November
  • Wednesday 6 November
  • Wednesday 13 November
  • Thursday 14 November
  • Tuesday 19 November
  • Wednesday 20 November
  • Wednesday 27 November
  • Thursday 28 November

Weekend Working

  • 9–10 November
  • 23–24 November

Work on the bridge’s decks is continuing. Designs for the lifting span and reinforced concrete deck are also nearing completion.

The council, its delivery partner Equans, and contractor the Spencer Group have once again thanked the public for their patience while the work is undertaken. It has also been reiterated that access restrictions are respected by the public to ensure safety, including staying out of all encapsulated areas.

Part of the scaffold covers over the bridge were removed in September. Corporation Bridge’s refurbishment was budgeted at £5.117m, with almost £3m funded by the Department for Transport. Because of the extra works, costs have risen, though how much has not yet been disclosed due to commercial sensitivity.
