Lincoln’s former police station still on the market

The former Lincoln Police Station is still on the market, three years after it was listed for sale.

The complex on West Parade – commonly known as the Ryvita Building – closed in November 2019 and was put on the market in December 2021.

A sign on the building says final offers should have been submitted to commercial estate agent Lambert Smith Hampton by 11 October.

The office of the Police and Crime Commissioner says there is currently no update on the future of the local landmark.

It seemed as though a deal would be secured last year when contract negotiations were carried out with a preferred bidder, but it was announced in May that this had fallen through.

PCC Marc Jones (Con) said at the time: “There are all kinds of complications with a big city centre building like this.

“These sales are often very complex and reliant on planning before it goes through.”

The asking price for the 70,000-square-foot building hasn’t been made public.

Lincolnshire Police had used the West Parade building, whose nickname comes from its concrete cladding, since the 1970s.

Emergency services from the building moved to the newly built Blue Light Hub on South Park when it closed.

Mr Jones had originally hoped to find a new use for the building, such as low-cost housing for frontline workers or business start-up space.

However, the Covid lockdown scuppered potential development plans, and it was placed on the market instead.

Any revenue from a sale must be spent on the force’s equipment, such as new vehicles, drones, or other police buildings.

The online listing says it “would suit a variety of alternative uses,” including leisure, retail, housing, and office space.
