Skegness policing teams have been very busy over the weekend preventing violence during a very busy weekend before Christmas.
Police said:
‘You may have seen officers at the Lumley, Three Monkeys, and Busters with the knife arch for additional safety and security during the festive period, when venues are increasingly busier.
‘During the evening, approximately 300 people were checked to see if they had any knives, either by walking through the knife arch or being scanned with the handheld metal detector.
‘It is against the law to carry a knife in a public place, and it can result in up to four years in prison if you are found in possession of one. With knife crime occurring every 11.5 minutes in the UK—that is 125 incidents a day on average—we thought it was imperative to keep the community safe, so we took action during one of the busiest nights of the year.
PC Ward said:
“We’re thrilled with the success of our event; we introduced the knife arch as a key measure to enhance safety.
“The event received significant interest from the community, underscoring the importance of safety awareness, especially during the festive season. It was heartening to see so many people engaging with our officers, making valuable connections, and showing a keen interest in our safety initiatives. Together, we can ensure a safer environment for everyone.”
